New Jersey has more highways than any other state in the nation, the Star-Ledger writes, but not all of them are pothole-studded miles of blacktop surrounded by sound walls, billboards and commerce. In fact, some of the most gorgeous stretches of roadways are in the Garden State, from the 3.5 mile Pulaski Skyway, which runs Jersey City to Newark, to tucked away corners like 20 miles on Route 542 in the Pine Barrens. Reporter Pete Genovese lists his favorite 10 scenic stretches, all worthy of a Sunday drive. Travelers take note: The Pulaski Skyway is open southbound only (towards Newark) but still makes for quite a scenic – and exciting – ride.
