RFI Article Challenges Engineering Industry to Act
RFI President Rose Reichman and Vice President Nancy Coopersmith penned an article titled, “The Engineering Profession: It’s Up to Us,”which was published in the September issue of New York Real Estate Weekly. Supported by national research studies, the article highlights the importance of changing the public’s perception of engineering and implores engineering firms and entities to actively engage in promoting both the creative aspects of the profession and the importance of the engineer’s work to our quality of life.

RFI Expands Off-Site Staff
RFI welcomes three new employees! Shirley Ortiz and Ben Whatley, construction contract administrators, and Maureen Barodin, document clerk, have been hired for MTA CC’s East Side Access (ESA) project. Shirley is working in the Queens office, and Ben and Maureen are at the Manhattan project office. One of the nation’s most extraordinary and complex engineering projects, ESA will bring the Long Island Rail Road into Grand Central Terminal in 2015.

ACEC New York Ad Hits Times Square
From the ABC Studios Jumbotron Sign at 44th Street and Broadway, the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC New York) launched its first statewide image advertising campaign to coincide with the celebration of National Engineers Week, February 15-21, 2009. Developed by RFI to create excitement and interest in engineering, ACEC New York’s new “Vision” campaign promotes positive and little-known aspects of the profession—creativity, innovation and forward thinking—to students, parents, academics, policy makers, government agencies and the general public. The ad will also appear in regional and trade publications throughout New York State and on billboards and posters in select markets in 2009. Space on the Jumbotron, one of the largest digital billboards in Times Square, was donated by Siemens Corporation >>

RFI Wins Awards in 2009
The International Academy of the Visual Arts and the Communicator Awards presented RFI with an award of distinction for the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York’s “Vision” campaign print ad in the category of business publication advertising. >>

“Invest in ACE”, a postcard campaign created by RFI for the ACE Mentor Program of Greater New York, received a Gold Award from the Hermes Creative Awards Program. The campaign—a series of four postcards—promotes the risk-free value of investing in future architects, constructors and engineers.

Climate, Energy and the Changing Environment Symposium
RFI planned and executed the public relations program for the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation’s symposium on environmental chemistry research. The event brought together over 100 world-class scientists on October 24, 2008, at the New York Academy of Sciences, 7 World Trade Center in Manhattan.
